Senior IT Systems Administrator

THE ROLE 

Reporting to the Senior Infrastructure Manager, within the Information Technology team, we are looking for a self-motivated, ambitious, experienced IT Systems Administrator with good communication skills and a strong drive to deliver results. You will be committed to finding solutions to problems from a global perspective and will work with different teams and disciplines to get things done. This is a bilingual position (French/English) and fluency in both languages is required.

WHAT YOU’LL DO 

Here are just a few ways that you’ll help make journeys better:  

  • Work closely with the Data Centre Manager to ensure that organisational standards and practices are met;

  • Administration, installation and advanced troubleshooting of Nutanix products and hyperconverged infrastructure;

  • Design and implement architectures to create and implement a dynamic on-premises architecture of virtualized resources supporting multi-tiered clustered applications, services, databases and HA functions using multiple hypervisors, platforms and operating systems;

  • Design and implement servers, clients, tools in a virtualized infrastructure and create a management plan to guide the operations and activities associated with the deployed resources and environments;

  • Plan and manage assigned activities with a focus on quality, timeliness and budget;

  • Analyse and resolve incidents to minimise downtime for all customers;

  • Perform daily system monitoring, checking the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs and verifying the execution of scheduled tasks such as backups;

  • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. according to project / operational standards and requirements;

  • Provide Level III / other support per request from various departments. Investigate and resolve problems;

  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with affected departments;

  • Investigate and recommend innovative and, where possible, automated approaches to system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale;

  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures;

  • Maintain operational, configuration and other procedures;

  • Carry out periodic performance reports to support capacity planning;

  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades and resource optimisation as required.

  • Configure processor, memory and disk partitions as required;

  • Maintain data centre monitoring equipment.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED 

We want you to join our team! Here’s what we’re looking for: 

  • 7 to 10 years experience in systems administration ;

  • DEC in computer technology or other relevant field;

  • Bilingualism essential (excellent written/oral communication in French and English);

  • Minimum 5 years experience with the following technologies (if applicable);

    • Hypervisor/hyperconverged infrastructure (AHV, Nutanix);

    • Management of cloud technologies (Azure, AWS, ADFS);

    • Windows Server 2008 – 2019 ;

    •  Citrix XenApp 7.x and above

    • GNU / Linux Redhat 5.5 – 7.x ;

    • Vmware Vsphere 6.0 – 6.5 using technologies such as Datastore clustering, DRS and DVswitch in a multi-host / multi-cluster environment;

    • Microsoft Active Directory under domain / forest level 2012 and above;

    • Backup and replication with Veeam backup and Replication ;

    • Veeam Backup and Replication ;

    • IBM Storewize and HP EVA storage systems;

    • Process automation via Microsoft Powershell 4.0 and higher;

    • Symantec Endpoint Protection ;

    • Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2012;

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Will be required to support the infrastructure in a 24/7 on-call rotation with other team members;

  • Ability to work well independently and in a global team environment;

  • Ability to work well independently and in a global team environment; Ability to work in a fast-paced, high priority environment;

  • Customer service skills;

  • Excellent working knowledge of various hardware and software;

  • Strong prioritisation, analytical and organisational skills;

  • Participation in an on-call rotation;

  • Experience in a retail environment;

  • Perform any other related duties as requested by supervisor.
